The body of these hammers are made from a tree once used for maple sugaring and, after being harvested, was underwater from flooding from Hurricane Irene in 2011.
The grips are Flamed or Curly maple, named for the 3-D effect the ripples in the grain pattern create, making it appear as if the grain has curled. It’s also referred to as Fiddleback Maple, because of its historic use for the backs and sides of violins.
