Classic Windsong Hammered Dulcimer Hammer - Maple with Lacewood grip
Maple with Lacewood grip. Black leather on one edge.
Length: 8 3/8 inches; Weight: 9.1 grams
The body of these hammers are made from a tree once used for maple sugaring and, after being harvested, was underwater from flooding from Hurricane Irene in 2011.
The grips are Lace wood. Unlike most woods, Lacewood is a common name used for lumber made from a number of different trees, all of which have a unique lace-like grain structure. The open grain makes unfinished Lacewood extremely prone to slivering, as anyone who has ever worked with it will attest. Once smoothed and finished it no long slivers, but the open grain produces an ever-so-slight texture to the grips which feels very nice to the fingertips.
